As we get older, wrinkles start to appear on our skin. At first, and most commonly, they start to appear on our face, typically where the skin naturally falls during facial expressions. As the years go by, they become more predominant. Some people embrace the fine lines, however it can make others feel insecure, which leads them to want to find out how to prevent wrinkles and how to stop wrinkles.
The reasons why we get wrinkles can range from natural and environmental reasons:
- Age: As you get older, naturally your skin gets thinner and becomes less elastic, so fine lines can start to appear. The natural oils in your skin have a lower production which can dry your skin, which can make wrinkles more noticeable.
- Facial expressions: Over time, fine lines and wrinkles start to appear where your skin would naturally fall during certain facial expressions. These expressions can range from frowning to smiling, and it’s due to the skin starting to become less flexible, resulting in permanent lines on the skin.
- Sun exposure: Overexposure to UV light from the sun can cause permanent damage to your skin and premature ageing. The UV light gradually breaks down your skin's connective tissue which lies in the skin’s dermis (deeper layer of your skin). Without this connective tissue, your skin can begin to wrinkle - due to losing its strength and flexibility.
- Smoking: Another environmental reason why some people might get wrinkles earlier than others is smoking. Having a constant movement by smoking can lead to premature wrinkles around the mouth.
Now we know why we get wrinkles, but now we need to know where these wrinkles form on our skin and how to prevent wrinkles.
