Our Commitment to Sustainable Skincare

We support sustainable beauty in all that we do - whether it’s by using sustainable sources or committing to recycled & recyclable packaging

"We are committed to taking the best from nature - but also to giving something back."

What is sustainable skincare?

The term ‘sustainable skincare’ refers to skincare products that have been produced in a way that allows the earth’s ecosystems to flourish and avoids causing harm to the environment.

At Florena, we aim to provide sustainable skincare by making use of natural, renewable resources, cutting our usage of plastics and aluminium and reducing our carbon footprint. We have found that practices which respect our beautiful planet result in high-quality, eco-friendly skincare - which means that everybody benefits from sustainable skincare.

Our Green Approach

In our choice of raw materials, the development of our skincare formulas and the creation of our cosmetics, we have chosen to follow the principles of green chemistry in order to create eco-friendly skincare products. Green chemistry means using raw materials that have come from renewable, sustainable sources and minimising the need for chemical processing.

Furthermore, we make sure to work with those who share our respect for the environment, and we are committed to forging stronger ties with suppliers who share our values.

Our commitment to reducing plastic pollution

We take care of your beauty, and we also work hard to protect the beauty of the natural world. We have chosen to use 97.5% recycled plastic in our jars and at least 70% recycled paper in the packaging of our other products. These materials can themselves be recycled: all you need to do is throw each component into the appropriate separate waste bin.

Reducing plastic pollution means that fewer raw materials need to be extracted, which saves energy and reduces CO2 emissions. It also reduces the hazards posed by plastic objects in the sea to marine animals and helps to tackle the problem of plastic contamination in the soil.

Tackling the problem of packaging waste

Our range of creams contain the standard amount sold on the market - 50ml. However, the jars in which they are sold weigh just 7g - more than six times less than standard jars.

Manufacturing smaller, lighter jars has helped significantly reduce our plastic usage and CO2 emissions.

The benefits of using natural ingredients

We have developed skincare products that use natural ingredients for more than 90 years, and we remain committed to continuing this tradition. Natural ingredients aren’t just great for your skin; they help benefit our precious environment too. By using ingredients that have come from natural, sustainable sources and have been extracted via the fermentation process, we avoid having to use the kinds of industrial extraction techniques that are used to isolate synthetic ingredients, which helps reduce our carbon footprint. Our natural ingredients also biodegrade shortly after you’ve finished using them, unlike many of the ingredients in synthetic skincare products.
